The Minerva prowed galley

I have recently (July 2023) acquired a type of Allectus galley Q radiate new to me, a galley from the C mint with a small figure on the prow. The figure holding a shield and spear is presumed to be Minerva or Virtus. The type is not listed in RIC, nor, more importantly, Burnett's monograph on Allectus coin types in BNJ 1984. It is also not included in the discussion of Q coins in the Rogiet hoard report (BNJ 2006), the largest single find of the Q coins. I can only presume that the type was first identified after 2006.

This coin is recorded in the PAS database (LVPL-81B720) and the entry show this was found in Navenby in Lincolnshire. Further information in the listing shows that there are six known examples with this reverse type, at the time of writing, but only two examples paired with this obverse legend noted in Sam Moorhead’s database for the revision of RIC.

A brief internet search brings up two specimens, both in CNG sales; the Barros collection specimen with the “..... P AVG” obverse, presumably the second specimen of my example noted in the PAS record. The other CNG Coin is from the sale of the Simon Shipp collection that is now in the British Museum collection, via David Miller, that has the “.... P F AVG” obverse legend.

Comparison of the available images I've found (click to enlarge) shows that the three coins all share the same reverse die.
