An obverse die link to RSR and unmarked denarii

Further proof, if indeed proof was actually needed, that the silver coins of Carausius with and without the reverse exergual mark RSR were made concurrently. I had been pondering whether they represented successive issues but it would appear not to be the case.

"Denarius"

Obv "IMP CARAVSIVS PF AVG"

Rev "MONETA AVG"
Moneta standing left holding scales and cornucopia

RIC 717

I spotted recently (October 2022) a silver laureate in the stock of UK dealer Silbury Coins that had a very distinctive die flaw on the obverse. The reverse of the specimen being MONETA AVG with no mark in the exergue.

"Denarius"
Obv "IMP CARAVSIVS PF AVG"
Laureate, draped & cuirassed bust right
Rev "EXPECTATE VENI"
Carausius greeted by Britannia
London mint?
-/-/RSR
RIC 554

The obverse die used to strike that coin was the same one that was used for an EXPECTATE VENI silver piece from my own collection that was marked RSR, albeit partially off the flan.
